3000 rockets and mortars have been fired at civilian targets in Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza strip in the last three years, 200 of them alone in the five days leading up to Operation Pillar of Defense. And all of this after Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in its entirety more than seven years ago! Despite this constant barrage, Israel has permitted humanitarian aid and non-military goods to pass into Gaza unimpeded, while also continuing to supply the territory with its electricity and gas. Yet the response has been an unmitigated rejection of Israel’s right to exist within any borders whatsoever – a rejection expressed not only in words but in an ongoing campaign of violence and terror intended to traumatize the citizens of Israel, from Sderot to Tel Aviv.
I want Israel to know I support its right to defend itself. I want Israel to know I care.
